Shameless Bragging

There once was a mama so pert
Who loved to run through the dirt
She thought she'd write a haiku
And win a new shoe
but all she got was a t-shirt.

Really, Son??

On Saturday morning R and I stopped at the bank as part of our errands. Our business was the sort that required an office visit with a manager. The man was very nice. He had a three year old son of his own, so he was practiced, and quite good at holding up his end of the conversation. He and R really hit it off. They chatted about all of R's favorite topics--wild animals, big cats, scientists, superheroes, Netflix, how R's cousin D has the best toys, whether or not Diego ever pees his pants or gets in trouble, y'know, the gamut.

When our business was concluded, he shook our hands, high fived R, and then, out of nowhere, R drew back and punched him in the 'nads. No one saw it coming.

I did the only thing I could do: I stammered an apology, grabbed the boy under my arm and bolted out the door.

It was a grocery store branch--tiny. The place was packed. Everyone saw it. The manager's next customer was standing right there....

I was so mortified.

"All Children Are Gifted"

The other day I looked up this link to share it with a friend. It's a speech Michael Clay Thompson gave in 1998. Admittedly, it is dated, but sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same.
